British Values and Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Education (SMSC)
At St Albans Girls' School, we believe British Values underpin what it is to be a citizen in a modern and diverse Great Britain, valuing our community and celebrating the diversity of the UK and our ethos reflects these values. Moreover, our focus on Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development ensures that students not only achieve academic excellence but also grow into responsible, thoughtful, and active citizens.
Our ethos of ‘physical, emotional and cognitive development for all’ supports the importance of the growth and development of all aspects of SMSC within the school community.
We have a duty to provide a positive influence whilst allowing students freedom of expression and the ability to reach decisions for themselves (conformity and challenge). SMSC is taught throughout the school community as part of the taught curriculum, such as PSHE and REP, as well as the pastoral curriculum, including Form Time, Assemblies, Personal Development days. Through a wide range of activities and programmes, we encourage our students to embrace diversity, engage in meaningful dialogue, and contribute positively to their community and the wider world.
